Thoughts: What Am I Good At

Long Gone As Usual

Yo, guys, I find it really hard to make a promise of posting constantly, because I won’t do it. I tried it before, didn’t work.

I am sort of wild, busy with all kind of ideas, most of them not fulfilling my soul, while they still keep me sort of satisfied, some shared with you, some only with my dearest friends, the main point here is, that a while ago, while I was going through a badass depression, I did some extra research together with my friends, it was inspiring, and it helped me, understand my strengths better.

It helped me realize I am good at design, and since then, I started working on my dream of becoming a fashion designer, while still keeping my job on aside, because we all got bills to pay.

Spread the questions below to your friends and find out how they see you.

Can you try answering 4 questions for me?

1. What do you think are my biggest passions and why? If you can think of at least two or three, that would be great. Please explain.

2. What do you think are my biggest natural strengths and talents? Please explain.

3. Given the above and what you know about me, what have you always thought I’d be great at doing as a career? Or maybe as a volunteer or a hobby? Please explain.

4. And here’s the big one… Assuming you didn’t know me personally, what talent, skill or passion would you happily pay me to teach or help you with? Why?

Yes, they are very simple and basic, but they reveal a lot.

Being a speaker at CodeCamp

You guys,

This Saturday I will present some aspects of my experience in automation at Codecamp. I feel like I am talking way too little, which is something new for me, and I am a bit scared of public speaking. No surprise there. Although I had previous experiences on it, it still freaks me out every time I have to do it.

That being said, I will share some awesome guidelines on automation, so if you are from Iasi, or you want to visit our city, meet me this Saturday at Codecamp. In order to attend you have to register. Visit their website: https://bit.ly/2K1eS1r

Appium vs XCTest & Espresso

As you might have seen, I took a long break from writing. Recently I decided to start again, with technical subjects and not only.

It’s only fair to start from where I left off. Find below the comparison between Appium and XCTest & Espresso:

Appium XCTest & Espresso
Pros
  • Only one code base
  • One person can develop for iOS and Android at the same time
  • Easy to switch from Web (Selenium) to mobile due to similarities in the syntax
  • Expertize on the market
  • Active community due to its age (6 years)
  • Support for multiple languages
  • Doesn’t require access to the app code base
  • XCTest is the official tool supported by Apple and is part of XCode
  • Espresso is the official tool supported by Google and is part of Android Studio
  • Both are really easy to configure
  • Both are easy to learn and use
  • Same code base as the tested app
  • Developing on the same language as the app (developers can help with tech matters)
Cons
  • Hard to configure
  • Apple and Google don’t recommend it
  • Maintenance from the Open Source community
  • Limited support for gestures
  • Two human resources needed
  • Lack of experienced people on the market because the tools are new

To conclude:

  • I think Appium was the first one to the Mobile Automation party, therefore is easier to find an information in the community when troubleshooting (because you will do tons of that)
  • Espresso and XCTest are the new kids in town with very cool parents (Google and Apple). Not many switched to them yet but for a newborn automation framework, they would be my To Go due to future development perspective.

See ya soon with new topics ^_^ pinky promise.

Sauce Labs: Appium and Espresso

As an automation engineer, I like to be up to date with all the technologies in my area. I focused on mobile and experimented with various tools.

Sauce Labs will give an overview of the two most popular tools for mobile automation: Appium and Espresso. You can register here.

I will post a sum up of it with my input also, from my own experience with them. 😀 Stay tuned.

Stanford Introduction to Food and Health

Coursera is an amazing learning site with a huge variety of subjects and universities. While checking my email this morning, I discovered this Stanford course on food and health.

It took me about an hour to complete it, and I learned a lot from it. I totally recommend it to you, if eating healthy is one of your concerns.

13 Series: Romanian Bands: Sarmalele Reci

This band was formed when I was 2 years old. They are a huge part of my childhood. Back then I felt in love with their sound, without really understanding the depth of the lyrics, but that got fixed in time. Unfortunately they stopped singing 4 years ago.

The members are listed below:

  • Zoltan Andras (voce, kybds.)
  • Emil Viciu (ch.)
  • Gabriel Drăgan (drms.)
  • Mircea Laszlo Horvath (kybds)
  • Dan Georgescu (bas)

You can listen my favourite song from them here.

13 Series: Romanian Bands: Luna Amara and Autumn Hotel

Intro:

  • First blog post from this series: Silent Strike
  • Since I’ve been away for so long… I “reward” you guys with a longer post including 2 bands instead of one. Joking 😀 I actually present them together because they have Nick Făgădar in common.

Luna Amara
Piece of Info: a Romanian alternative rock band from Cluj. It was formed by Nick Făgădar (vocals, guitar) and Gheorghe Farcaş (bass guitar) in September 1999. The initial name of the band was Tanagra Noise (there is a song with this title on their first album). In 2000 they changed it to Luna Amara. They released 4 studio albums: Asfalt (2004), Loc Lipsa (2006), Don’t Let Your Dreams Fall Asleep (2008), Pietre in Alb (2011) and a live one: Live la Conti (2014). The present formula of the band is: Mihnea Blidariu, Răzvan Ristea, Sorin Moraru, Nick Făgădar, Şerban Onţanu-Crăciun.

My View: According to last.fm, from the Romanian bands I listen, they lead the way with ~ 600 plays

  • best album: Loc Lipsa
  • favourite songs: In tine tu, Loc lipsa, Luni de fiere, In cercuri a.s.o.

You can follow them on:

Autumn Hotel

Piece of Info: This is the project of Nick from Luna Amara in collaboration with other great Romanian musicians from bands like Kumm and Urma. The members are: Nick Făgădar – voice, electric and acoustic guitar, Dominic Csergo – drums, Andras Kovacs – keyboards, Eugen Nutescu – electric guitar, Sorin Moraru-bass, Dan Vaida – bass, Adrian OQ Neagoe – electric guitar, Andrei Rosulescu – electric guitar. They only released one album.

My View: Autumn Hotel is like that awesome not so popular kid from school. I recommend you to try at least Ploape de Mac and Nelinisti from their songs.

You can find them on Facebook

Outro:

If you like my posts, follow me cause I am back for good.

13 Series: Romanian Bands: Silent Strike

Piece of Info: Silent Strike is a Romanian electronic/film music composer born in 1982. He released 10 albums (5LPs & 5EPs), collaborated with numerous musicians and opened the concerts of Faithless, Bonobo, Venetian Snares and others.

My View: He makes the kind of music that expands one’s mind. Descriptions are useless, go see him live.

Concert: Yes, that’s a link to an event that takes place tonight, you guessed it, Silent Strike sings in Iasi. He actually releases a new material: Carousel.

You can follow him on:

Hope I will see you guys in Meru, at the concert. This time I say laters with a song ^_^

13 Series

This post is the first one from the new project I have for my blog, 13 Series. I will present 13 Romanian Bands, 13 Websites, 13 Books, 13 Movies ..and so on. Depending on the complexity of the subject I will have 13 posts or a single one, for each section. The series will be related to art or self development (seen from my perspective).

Stay tuned, soon I will present the first band, I mentioned them before on my blog, but they are mandatory in the 13 Romanian Bands series (yes, yet another post about music… guilty).

Laters alligators ^_^
